KABUKI - Palm Beach Gardens, FL

You know I love Sushi, so when I found out that Kubuki was opening in Palm Beach Gardens, I was pumped!  Kabuki is located next to Rocco's Taco and where Sushi Joe's used to be.  The restaurant is intimate, but very well decorated with red lanterns and a long, inviting sushi bar.
We started with a few drinks.  Beer, wine and of course sake!

For appetizers, we enjoyed quite a few.  First up, the Spicy Edamame and Rock Tuna.  The spicy edamame was great. The spicy sesame oil and chili pepper gave a nice kick to the traditionally prepared edamame.   The rock tuna was delicious.  If you like tuna and avocado, I would highly recommend.  The tuna was freshly diced and mixed up with spicy mayo, tempura flakes and seasame seeds. It tasted like a mashed up tuna roll without the rice!

Next up we ordered krab rangoon, steamed pork dumplings, and the hamachi jalapeno. I never crave krab rangoon, so I may not be the best one to ask about this.  They were creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside, however still not my favorite and would pass next time I returned. The one great thing is, they were definitely freshly made!

The pork dumplings were scrumptious. The dumpling were not "doughy" tasting as some dumplings have tasted to me lately.  They were overstuffed with lots of meat inside.  Loved!

Lastly, for appetizers we tried the hamachi jalapeno.  Yellowtail, fresh jalapeno, fried onion and ponzu sauce.   If you like spicy, this may be the one for you.  Those jalapeno's were hot!!! The fish was tasty, but this dish was a little spicy for my liking.

Before our entrees came, why not have a SAKE BOMB?? SAKE, SAKE BOMB was being chanted in the restaurant while we lined up to take these flaming shots!  Always a good time with a group of friends!

Now the sushi!  We tried the red dragon, which consisted of shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, topped with tuna, eel sauce, and mayo.  Loved it. The tempura was hot and crunchy.  One of my pet peeves is when the tempura is pre-made.  Not here.  Tempura was freshly cooked to order.
PBJ roll, spicy tuna, cream cheese, snapper tempura, avocado, mayo and smelt roe. I think this roll is a spicy tuna with a little flare. The spicy tuna was not too mushy, which i prefer.  Some sushi restaurants make their spicy tuna so smashed it ends up tasting like baby food.  Not here!
To the right you will see the black dragon roll, shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, topped with eel.  If you like eel, this one is for you.  The pieces of eel on top were Huge!

Yes, there is another platter of sushi.  Like they say either "go big or go home"; we definitely ordered big. The Volcano, Hawaiian district, and Daimyo were next up.  The Volcano is pretty traditional with baked seafood on top.  The Hawaiian district was a little different then our normal sushi choices.  Tuna, cucumber, cream cheese, and topped with Kiwi. It is a sweeter roll and a nice change up.  Lastly, one of my favorites of the night.  The Daimyo, yellowtail, tuna, salmon, avocado, scallion, and smelt roe.  Love the rolls with a ton of fish!  Excellent.

Yep, now we are full!  We had a great time at Kabuki.  The service was top notch and they were having just as much fun as we were.  The fish melted in your mouth (as it should when it is fresh).  Everything was made to order.  The prices are reasonable, especially for the size of the rolls.  My favorite sushi place will always be Too Bizaare, but I must say Kabuki is a great slightly cheaper alternative.  I look forward to returning back.
I recommend taking advantage of happy hour, where they serve 1/2 priced cocktails, $2.50 beers, and discounted sushi.

Try Kabuki, I think you will agree this new sushi place is nice addition to Palm Beach Gardens.
