CHARLEY'S CRAB - Palm Beach, FL

For Mother's Day we were looking for a place that had a water view as well as somewhere we would not normally go to during the weekend.  We wanted to make the day special. We decided to try Charley's Crab.    located on Palm Beach Island.  Charley's Crab has been around since the 80's.  Chuck Muer had opened the restaurant, however after his death the big chain, Landry's bought it out. If you are unaware, Landry's owns many different restaurants around the country.  Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, Rainforest Cafe, and Morton's to name a few.  Before making a reservation, I was unaware that Landry's now owned Charley's Crab.  I actually thought it was a local establishment, so when I saw the Landry's logo on the menu, I became a little nervous about how enjoyable the new few hours would be.

When we arrived, I asked if we could be seated by the window.  One of the things that makes this restaurant so appealing is the view.  The restaurant overlooks the water and even though the road is in between the restaurant and the water, it is still a fine view.  A great place to watch the sunset!

We started with a glass of wine and our waiter brought us a delicious bread basket.

For appetizers we tried the Dynamite Scallops and the Crab, Avocado, and Mango Stack.  The Dynamite Scallops were fantastic.  If you like the spicy sauce in spicy tuna roll or the sauce on bang bang shrimp, I think you will devour these dynamite scallops.  A must order!  One of my favorite things all night!

The Crab, Avocado, and Mango stack is not an item I would recommend.  Brandt and I are experts at these "stacks".  Crab or tuna stacks are very popular among menus these days and always something we try.  I did not care for this stack because the crab was mixed with mayonnaise. I would suggest using fresh crab with a little lime and cilantro.  This would have made it much tastier.

For the entree's....Well it is called Charley's Crab, so why not devour in some expensive crab??  Yes, Brandt's Mom, Brandt and myself all treated ourselves to the Alaskan King Crab Legs.  They were delicious, but costly.  Coming in at a little over fifty dollars for a pound (not sure if it was maybe a pound and half), we made sure we ate every last bite!  The crab was delicious and melted in your mouth!

Brandt's Dad did not follow the crowd and enjoyed the AppleJack Grouper that was topped with apples and sun dried cherries that are simmered in a sweet bourbon reduction.  A different spin on grouper for sure!

Yep, we still wanted dessert!

Brandt's mouth was watering for chocolate, so we ordered one of their signature desserts, Chocolate Truffle Cake.  Chocolate cake with molten chocolate center and frangelico creme anglaise. Topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and Heath Bar. YUMMMM!!

We also ordered a slice of cheesecake with raspberry sauce. The chocolate cake was much more exciting and tastier.

Charley's Crab has a nice atmosphere and has become a staple on the Island. Go to Charley's Crab for a nice view of the water, but be prepared to spend some dough.  The food was good and we did have a nice server, however I am not sure for the cost it is actually worth it.  It is Palm Beach though, everything is a little pricier here.  At the end of the night, we had a great dinner with lots of laughs and lots of wine.  No one was "crabby" when we left!

Cheers!
