VIC & ANGELO'S - Palm Beach Gardens, FL

Vic and Angelo's is always a fun time.  When I think of Italian, I think of loud, energetic, family, and lots of food.  All of those words come to mind and Vic and Angelo's encapsulates all of these.  Vic and Angelo's has traditional Italian food with a warm atmosphere and a touch of elegance.  The red accents throughout the restaurant and the cozy booths allow you to know you are in for a real Italian experience with a touch of South Florida flare.

Brandt's parents were in town for Mother's Day weekend, so we started with a few cocktails.  Susan enjoyed white sangria, I had a glass of Ruffino red wine and the rest of the family enjoyed some Pinot Grigio.

White Sangria

Il Ducale, Ruffino

Our server, Beatrice, greeted us with fresh bread that was delicious.  It was crunchy on the outside with a burst of olive oil and garlic in every bite.

For appetizers, we started with fried calamari and their homemade mozzarella.  The calamari was delicious. It was served with spicy San Marzano tomatoes, red peppers and basil.  The marinara sauce it was served with was slightly creamy.  It was a great pairing. The heat from the calamari and the slight richness of the sauce made it one of my favorite calamari dishes.

The homemade mozzarella was served over fresh arugula.  The mozzarella melted in your mouth and was not cold.  If you ever purchase freshly made mozzarella then you know you never refrigerate right away.  It can actually stay out for about a day before refrigeration.  It passed my test.

Veal Piccata

For my Entree, I ordered the Veal Piccata.  It was served with artichoke hearts, capers, and white wine vinegar.  It came with a side of broccoli rabe.  The portion was large and the veal was tender.  It tasted exactly what I was craving.   The broccoli rabe was delicious.  It was sauteed with oil and of course garlic.

Escarole and White Beans
I also got a side of the escarole and white beans.  The escarole and white beans is sauteed with white wine, olive oil, garlic, and parsley.  The escarole was slightly more bitter then I remember it to me when my mom would make it.

Brandt enjoyed their $16 Old School Kobe Meatball accompanied by their Iceberg Wedge Salad.   The meatball was HUGE and the sauce was delicious.  If you have read my other reviews that I have done, you know that marinara or meat sauce really does it for me.  You can tell at Vic and Angelo's that their red sauce is homemade and they use only fresh ingredients.  Their tomatoes are actually imported directly from Naples, Italy.  You can tell!!!

The Iceberg Wedge Salad was presented nicely however Capital Grill's Wedge is superior.  Here, they served the wedge with a gorgonzola vinaigrette, when you were really craving blue cheese.  Probably a personal choice, but would pass next time around.

Howard and Meryl both had the Linguini with clam sauce.  One with red sauce and one with white sauce.  They both were nice size portions full of fresh clams.  Both sauces had tremendous flavor and of course my favorite, garlic.

Brandt's Mom, Susan enjoyed the Eggplant Parmigana.  Slightly different then a traditional eggplant parmigan because the eggplant was not breaded.  The slices of eggplant was stacked and then layered with tomato sauce and whipped ricotta.  Very delicious.

Even though we were more then stuffed, we got caught in a rain storm.  Since we could't go anywhere, why not order dessert.  We ordered the Venetian cake. White cake, custard filling, topped with meringue and drizzled with a cherry sauce.   LOVED IT!  I am not a chocoholic, so desserts that are on the lighter side are my favorite.

And we are done.  Bring out the Wheel-barrel and roll us out!  Vic and Angelo's is a great place to bring the family and enjoy some hearty traditional favorites.  Definitely on the pricey side for Italian, however you will leave satisfied and happy.

For a real deal, try going during happy hour.  All appetizers are half off and half off all drinks!  Great deal and always a great crowd.

So grab a glass a wine and enjoy another great restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens!
