BURGER BAR - Palm Beach Gardens, FL

Looking for a Gourmet Burger or are you a Burger Connoisseur? Burger Bar will be your new favorite hot spot.  Chef Allen, a James Beard Award winning chef, recently opened this upscale burger joint in the Gardens. Located in the Donald Ross Village Shopping Center, Burger Bar reminds me of an upscale meat market with meat grinders everywhere you look.  They have in and outdoor seating with a very nice outside bar, great for happy hour from 4-7 everyday.
We arrived on the later side on a Friday night, around 9, and there was still a crowd at the bar enjoying some March Madness action. We took a table outside and ordered some drinks.  The boys ordered beer (always good with burgers) and I ordered my usual cherry vodka soda.  If you like Cherry vodka soda like I do, they have this black cherry vodka that is to die for.  You must try!

They even have fun drink napkins!  This can always make for an interesting night and a conversation starter! Little touches like this, always make me happy!

Anyway we started with some appetizers...Fried Pickles....AAAMAZING!  They are actually whole pickles instead of just slices.  The sauce is a mustardy mayo, I was tempted to just eat the sauce with a spoon!

We also had White Truffle Fries!  They are tossed table-side with white truffle oil, parmesan cheese and fresh  parsley.  A Must have!

Brandt and I love, love, love eggs on our burgers!  Can you believe that none of the burgers at Burger Bar have fried egg on it.  Both of us ordered different burgers, but we did ask for eggs on top!  We were happy they were willing to accomadate us.

I ordered the Blue Sky Buffalo Burger with ground buffalo, bacon, onions and Maytag blue cheese.  As I said, I added a fried egg.  I ordered mine medium rare and I was pleasantly surprised that it actually was Medium Rare.  Now a days when you order a burger no matter how you ask for it to be cooked, it comes out "Well Done", here you will get what you ask for.  I like that ALOT!

Our friend Keir ordered the Beach Burger with Bacon, Swiss cheese, house made pickle chips, and "Beach Sauce."

Carl ordered "The Greek."  This actually has lamb instead of ground beef and is topped with tomato, onion, cucumber, and house made tzatziki sauce!

Brandt enjoyed the Prime Steak Burger which is an Angus Beef Burger, grilled mushrooms, "smothered" onions, Gruyere cheese, and house made steak sauce!  YUM!  As is said earlier, we ordered fried eggs on top!

So after all that meat and more fries, we were ridiculously full!  We were tempted to try their Adult Milkshakes, but we just were too full!  I definitely want to go back for the Nutella Bourban Shake!  Sounds Amazing!

Even if you don't like red meat, you can still enjoy Chef Allens deliciousness! Try some of his chicken wings, tuna burgers, mushroom burgers, and other fun creations!  A great place for a fun, casual, American night and possibly the best burger you have ever had!

Dont forget Happy Hour Everyday 4-7!  And if you are really looking to party they have a Burger Bar Shot Tree.  Six customized shots for just you or your party!

When we first moved down here, we would ask everyone we met, "Where is a great place to eat?"  We always got an assortment of responses, but one place that was on everyone's list was Hog Snappers!
Hog Snappers is small and when I say small I mean really small!  When we arrived around 7pm last night, I think there may have been more people waiting outside to get a table then actually people eating inside.    Thankfully they are in the process of expanding, but this "hole in the wall" restaurant is worth the wait!
When we arrived,we were told the wait was an hour and 45 minutes.  "Ok, no problem, we will have a drink at the bar"  Not so fast, no bar here!  The restaurant is too small for that.  Luckily Tequesta Brewing Company ( one of my faves for sure) is right next door.   So we were able to grab a few house made brews  to make the wait go by faster.
When are table was FINALLY ready, I was pleasantly surprised the Hogs Snapper Hostess came in to Tequesta Brewing Company to let us know our table was ready..How Nice!
Tables at the restaurant are tight, so you will get friendly with your neighbors.  I actually enjoyed it because I already know I will be ordering the New England Clam Chowder next time I visit Hog Snappers due to the fact I had a great view of the Chowder from the friendly local next to me.

Once we sat down, we ordered a few drinks and appetizers right away.  Again, Only Beer and Wine at this local establishment.

We started with the Crab Dip!  Very Tasty and sooo Crabby!

And the Raw Blue Point Oysters..My Fav!  And they even give you an additional Oyster shooter!
(I did eat a few before taking the picture)

And the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake..Everyone starting diving in before I snapped a shot of one of the thickest crab cakes I have ever had!  I will have to bring my Maryland friends here..that will be the real test!

Now for the Entrees. When I asked the waitress, "Whats the best?"  She didn't hesitate to answer," Crab Crusted Snapper."
I really liked that because often when I ask that question, you get an annoying response, "Everything is so great and amazing here, you cant go wrong."  I appreciated the honesty and the Enthusiasm!  Even though everything I tasted last night, I loved!

Three people at our table took the waitress' suggestion and ordered the Crab Crusted Sanpper.  It even comes with Lobster-Crab Mashed Potatoes...AHHHHHHHH!  Seriously a MUST ORDER!!!

They have a nice selection of sushi.  I enjoyed the Edy Roll, with Shrimp Tempura, Cream Cheese, Asparagus, cucumber, topped with Tuna, Masago, Scallions, and Tempura Flakes.  --It was little spicy, but tasty.

Our Other friend Diana ordered the Cayo Hueso Roll.  The roll is Tuna, Salmon, Cream Cheese, Avocado, and topped with Spicy Conch Salad.  You would think by the description, the conch salad would be a small component to the roll...but oh no..look below!

And if you are looking for a Salad..they have that too!  Our Friend ordered the Baby Spinach Salad with Shrimp!

We were stuffed and didn't get to try dessert, but I will most definitely come back.  The menu has so many things I would love to try.  They even have a 2 pound burger call the Spike Burger that if you eat it all, you win a free t-shirt!  I would love to see that!

Many people at the restaurant ordered the "Tequesta Seafood Feast", which comes out in a big stainless steel bowl, full of seafood, potatoes, and corn on the cob!  Another Must Try, but this looks a little messy, so be prepared to get dirty!

So many wonderful, desirable things!  I cant wait to go back.  Next time I will arrive earlier, but it was worth the wait!!!

THAI LOTUS - Tequesta, FL

On a cooler, possibly rainy day, Thai food always sounds good to Brandt and I.  The spiciness combined with coconut and peanut sauces..Ughh... that's my kind of comfort food!  However, not every Thai restaurant will bring me to such utopia.  You have to find the right one.  Our friends Carl and Keir, took us to Thai Lotus last week and it will be a place we will for sure make many stops to in the future.
Thai Lotus is located in Tequesta and is tucked away in a very quiet shopping center, I almost want to say abandoned shopping center.  However, I am not sure what happens during the day there since we did visit during dinner time.  During season, as with all restaurants in Palm Beach County, we did have to wait about 10 minutes to be seated.  Once seated, we were not greeted for quite sometime.  So I recommend going with friends who you want to talk to you and enjoy being with because you will get a lot of conversation in :)  Even with the slow service we all had a great night.
Once our server finally arrived, we started the night with a few Kirin Lights.  Sorry, no Liquor here, only beer and wine.
We ordered the Thai sampler for the table as a appetizer.  It included a combination of spring rolls, fried wontons, chicken satay, curry puffs, and steamed dumplings.  The steamed dumplings were my favorite.

Brandt ordered the Chicken Pad Thai-Extra Spicy.  He was definitely feeling the heat by the time he finished his dish. For some reason, that is enjoyable to him. I never understood that. Either way, it was tasty.

I ordered my favorite,Chicken Panang Curry.  Delish!

And Keir ordered the Red Curry

We were stuffed at that point, so we were unable to try dessert, but we did get to experience a local donut place in Jupiter the next morning.  Look for it, in a future post.

The food at Thai Lotus is authentic and tasy and they do have an extensive menu including a wide variety of sushi.  A for sure place to try when a laid back night is in order.  Nothing Trendy here, but you will enjoy a great meal. Even a great place for just take out.  Thai Lotus is Thai-riffic!!

Post a comment and let me know what your favorite Thai food is?
